Hope Kiwi Hut Hike

So we planned an adventure, and got a lot more than we bargained for. We started by rowing 6km from our base to the other side of Lake Sumner. After hiding the canoe we embarked on a 8km hike to a DOC hut. After a late lunch at the hut we set up our tent and went looking for some deer. After a peaceful night in our tent, we rose the next morning and hiked the 8km back to our canoe. This is when things took an unexpected turn. We reach the shores of Lake Sumner only to be met with 25km per hour winds, making rowing back to base foolish and downright dangerous. Our Garmin confirmed that the weather would only get worse over the next 48 hours. There was only one obvious choice… so off we went hiking 14km up hills, down valleys and through rivers, reaching base safely at 9.20pm. WHAT A DAY!
